Sarah, now that you have finally left, maybe it's time to stop capitalizing off of New York by trashing it? You are not a New Yorker. You never were. You were a transplant with unrealistic expectations who refused to live modestly and you are completely out of touch with the majority of New Yorkers.

I was recently in NYC, opted to pay Lyft, yes it was expensive, but we had it budgeted into our travel. We had some trouble getting to the AirTran because of some renovations, but a nice sir told us which way to go. All through the trip we used the subway and buses, the contactless option was a breeze to use.

The house looks great. I am surprised the appraiser/inspector didn't catch those things like the mold, roof and chimney issues. Going forward write all of your taxes. Then with the money you get back use that for the projects you need to take care of next. Then write that off your taxes. Do one expensive project every year using the money from your taxes (not your savings or paycheck) and write it off your taxes. Then reuse the money for some house repairs or updates the following year. You could also use some to pay down the debt you might have for the current renovations. After the pool and the basement area are done consider getting a heated driveway as it will help with the snow.

Here’s the thing about NYC. People choose this. You have an entire state (still expensive, but wayyyy cheaper than NYC) and people chose to live in the city. Most of them are not from the city or from NY at all and don’t have any ties keeping than here other than the perk of saying you live in NYC. Upstate we call these people Cityiots.

I visited NY a few years ago, wanted to visit Times Square. Almost walked right past it. It was not what you see on TV. Maybe I went on an off day because there was none of these fun things.
